Custom Transformers
Nicollet prides itself on the company's ability to tackle specialized design tasks in a wide variety of industries and applications. We are here to serve our customers with the most economical and efficient wound magnetic designs. To date, we have produced more than 3,000 solutions to customer design requests. Here are a few examples:
Solenoids:
A coil of wire with more than one turn is generally called a solenoid. A more sophisticated solenoid consists of many turns of wire that creates a strong magnetic field when electrically energized. This magnetic field is used to create physical motion called motor action. An example of a highly custom solenoid we manufacture is a product that embosses credit cards with letters and numbers. |

Current Transformers:
Current sensors or transformers are most commonly used in instrumentation. In an ideal current transformer the ampere-turns in the primary equal the ampere-turns in the secondary. The sensor or transformer must be designed with minimum losses in order to achieve the greatest accuracy. Designs can use laminated cores or toroidal cores. Nicollet Technologies manufactures a variety of current sensors including a unit that monitors power on battleship mounted generator sets. |

Governor coils
Nicollet Technologies' toroid winding equipment is capable of winding more than just toroids. Our fully programmable machines combined with custom tooling can wind a variety of coil geometries. For example, Nicollet manufactures a stator that governs speed on a motor-generator set. |

Custom coils
Diversity is what sets Nicollet Technologies apart from a typical transformer house. We use custom winding equipment, fabricated in house, to enable us to wind nearly any custom coil. We manufacture many types of custom coils including a coil wound on a copper bobbin used to control the beam of an electron microscope. |
